A law firm, LinkedLegal Attorneys (LLA), has launched a pro-bono programme aimed at providing legal support and advice to young girls.

Its Principal Partner Miss Nneamaka Onyeama said through the initiative – Embracing the Girl Child – the firm will counsel and rehabilitate victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence.

“There is no greater pillar of stability than an educated girl child,” Onyeama said.

Besides providing legal representation, the firm will sensitise the girl child at secondary school level on laws protecting them.

Onyeama said the girls would be counseled on puberty, menstrual hygiene, career choices, sex education, among others, while there will be free distribution of sanitary towels to them.

The lawyer had been engaging in outreaches, such as the sensitisation of Jikwoi Community in Abuja on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, as well as prison visitations with relief materials.

Onyeama said the firm launched the initiative to help empower the girl child “to live life without confines”.

“We hope to inspire, educate and provide mentorship for the girl child and strive to make a nation free of gender-based limits,” Onyeama said.

According to her, there is the need to raise awareness on the ills of sex based violence against the girl child.

This is such an important initiative! I've seen firsthand how lack of menstrual hygiene education affects girls' education. Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you for sharing this. As a teacher, I've seen the difference this education makes. More schools need to implement these programs.

Great article! I'm particularly impressed by the approach of including boys in the education. This is crucial for breaking the stigma.
